Simone Biles’ Brother Charged With Triple Murder In Ohio
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles’ brother, Tevin Biles-Thomas has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal triple shooting where two others were also injured in Cleveland, Ohio on New Year’s Eve, as NBC News reports.
On Thursday (Aug. 29), the 24-year-old was arrested at Fort Stewart in Georgia. According to a joint statement from the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the fatal shooting took place on Dec. 31 at an Airbnb rental property that left three men dead.
An “uninvited group” entered the property and “an altercation ensued” between them and the invited guests, which led to gunfire, according to the statement.
Delvante Johnson, 19 and Toshaun Banks, 21, were both pronounced dead at the scene, while Devaughn Gibson, 23, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to prosecutors, Biles-Thomas, an active-duty soldier with the Army, was charged with six counts of murder, three counts of voluntary manslaughter, five counts of felonious assault and one count of perjury.
After the arrest, Cleveland police were congratulated by Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. The apprehension of Biles-Thomas came after almost eight months of investigation.
“The relentless persistence of Cleveland Police Homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case,” O’Malley said in a statement. “It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims.”
An arraignment is set for Biles-Thomas for Sept. 13 in Cleveland, and he is currently being held at Liberty County Jail in Hinesville, Georgia. It’s currently unclear when he may be extradited. It’s also unknown if Biles-Thomas has an attorney.
