Taylor Swift Will Drop ‘Lover’ Title Track This Friday
While picking up the first-ever Icon Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday (Aug. 11), Taylor Swift used her speech to share some big news. Swift is dropping Lover‘s title track on Friday, Aug. 16, a week before she releases her sixth album.
Swift’s Teen Choice Awards speech had her thanking her fans, shouting out the U.S. women’s soccer team fight for fair pay (Alex Morgan was her date), and sharing news about her upcoming record, all while holding her award: a surfboard featuring her three cats, Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button.
“I also just wanted to tell you, there’s so much that I’m excited about coming up in the next 12 days until my album comes out,” she said to end her speech. “The album comes out on Aug. 23rd, but I wanted to tell you guys tonight that on the 16th, on Friday, I have a new song called ‘Lover’ that is coming out, and I’m so excited. I love you.”

Fans are excited, too, to hear the title track, which might set the tone for the album she told Vogue that Lover might be her favorite album. “There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning,” she said. “This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory.”
This track announcement came after a big weekend for Swift, who went viral after a night out drinking and dancing. Yes, #DrunkTaylor is a thing that even Swift thinks is pretty funny. “Threw a party to celebrate with the people who made the ME! & YNTCD videos with me,” she tweeted, “and we had so much fun that ‘Drunk Taylor’ is trending on Twitter. CHEERS.”
