Tom Petty Legal Drama Now Involves A Salad Dressing Line
The legal drama surrounding the estate of Tom Petty has taken a very strange turn with the latest accusation between Petty’s widow, Dana, and his daughters from his first marriage, Adria and Annakim, now involving a potential salad dressing line featuring the late Petty’s likeness.
Page Six reports via new legal documents that Dana Petty blocked Adria Petty from authorizing “…Tom’s name and likeness to be used to promote products akin to Paul Newman, whose face adorns bottles of salad dressing and so on.”
The new legal documents continued, “But Tom would never have permitted such a thing, he never ‘sold out’ while he was alive and refused to do any such thing despite numerous opportunities. Dana is certain Tom’s fans would also find it a sad perversion of Tom’s legacy.”
Earlier this month, Adria and Annakim Petty filed a $5 million lawsuit against Dana Petty for “usurpation of…business opportunities.” Per The Blast, the daughters’ lawsuit was filed by Petty Unlimited, an LLC which was created to manage the late Petty’s various business dealings. Adria and Annakim accused Dana of creating another LLC, Tom Petty Legacy LLC, and breaching “their fiduciary duties to the company by withholding certain assets and diverting them to another company she set up,” all of which allegedly goes against what the late Petty wanted.
The $5 million lawsuit was preceded by a petition from Dana Petty in April to the Los Angeles County court requesting they create an agreement to appoint a manager of the estate. She also requested that all decisions pertaining to the estate must require a consensus to prevent Adria and Annakim from having a complete override of any decisions. At that time, Adria filed her own petition with the court accusing Dana of not setting up the LLC so she can have sole control of the “artistic properties.” Dana then accused Adria of questionable behavior, which included sending angry emails to various managers, record label reps and even members of the Heartbreakers.
