Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Drink Coffee On A Cold Day In Delaware
If your first thought on a cold day is to reach for a warm beverage, you might want to grab a sweater instead.
This will definitely not be a popular opinion. I am positive most people reading this don’t drink coffee for it’s warming effects and more for the caffeine. I mean we’ve all seen the lines at Dunkin’, Wawa and Starbucks, this is not going to stop us. But, it is an interesting tidbit.
According to the Wall Street Journal, your body already has a mechanism to keep you warm when cold. It’s called shivering. By sipping something warm, you’re fighting nature.
Caffeinated drinks like coffee will actually cause you to become colder. They’re a diuretic, which removes heat retaining water from your body through urination. And avoid alcohol. While you may think it warms you up, it doesn’t and could bring about more severe problems while out in the cold, like hypothermia.
So, maybe throw on an extra sweater or two if you plan to drink a cup of coffee to warm yourself up on a cold day. We all know we aren’t going to give it up. Haha.
