Aretha News Round-Up: Tribute Show, Funeral Update
Aretha Franklin will be laid to rest next week, and she’s going out in grand style.
On Thursday, August 30, a free tribute concert will be held at Detroit’s Chene Park Amphitheatre feature a number of performers honoring The Queen of Soul. Per TMZ, those artists include Gladys Knight, the Four Tops, Angie Stone, Johnny Gill, Ron Isley, Kiki Sheard, Kurt Carr and many more.
The free tickets will be available at Ticketmaster.com starting on Monday, August 27 at 10 AM ET with a two tickets per-person limit and all Ticketmaster fees waived.
As for Franklin’s funeral, it will be taking place Friday, August 31 at Greater Grace Temple Church. Per the Detroit Free Press, 19 performers are slated to honor Franklin at her funeral service and among them are Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Hudson, Faith Hill, Ron Isley, Fantasia, Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, Jennifer Holliday and many more.
Oh…and in case you thought Franklin’s tribute couldn’t get better, there will also be a motorcade of over 100 pink Cadillacs in honor of Franklin’s hit “Freeway of Love.”
According to The Detroit News, the motorcade was organized by Greater Grace Temple’s Bishop Charles H. Ellis III and his wife, Crisette. The pink Cadillac owners/drivers are also invited to attend Franklin’s private funeral service, which will certainly be one fit for a queen.
