Britney Spears is back with her first project since being freed from her 13-year conservatorship with a new song with the legendary Elton John. This marks Spears’ first time releasing new music since her 2016 Glory album. Titled, “Hold Me Closer,” the single is a spin on John’s 1971 classic “Tiny Dancer.”
John announced the single’s release date in an Instagram post last weekend, featuring a split image of the two as children: Spears in a pink frilly dress and himself seated at a piano.
Spears responded to John with her own Instagram post, which was reposted by a backup fan page since her profile is not currently active. “You can bet your bottom dollar that THIS collaboration will heighten my year by joining your brilliant hands of play,” she wrote. “Thank you for your generosity and just thinking of me to join you on such a brilliant song! How cool is it to be a background voice ON YOUR song! Sir Elton I did it thanks to your genius, creative, and legendary mind!”

As we recently reported, Sir Elton said of working with Spears, “It’s hard when you’re young. Britney was broken. I was broken when I got sober. I was in a terrible place. I’ve been through that broken feeling and it’s horrible. And luckily enough, I’ve been sober for 32 years and it’s the happiest I’ve ever been. Now I’ve got the experience to be able to advise people and help them because I don’t want to see any artists in a dark place.”
Elton John recently collaborated with Dua Lipa on “Cold Heart.”
