Lindsey Buckingham celebrates his birthday today (October 3), and while his entire body of work should be celebrated, one song he wrote in particular often sticks out and remains one of the best breakup songs ever.

That got us thinking about all of the other incredible breakup songs in the classic rock genre (and there are A LOT), but we’ve narrowed down our favorites to a tight eight-track playlist that we hope you’ll enjoy in honor of Buckingham’s birthday or if you find yourself working through a breakup of your own.

Fleetwood Mac - “Go Your Own Way”

“Packing up shacking up’s all you wanna do.” BURN!

The Greg Kihn Band - “The Breakup Song”

This list certainly would be incomplete without this ridiculously hooky Greg Kihn Band track.

Joan Jett and the The Blackhearts - “I Hate Myself For Loving You”

Easily one of Jett’s strongest tracks and that riff? Killer!

J. Geils Band - "Love Stinks"

Can anyone else think of this song without thinking about 'The Wedding Singer'?  Because we can’t.

Bob Dylan - “It Ain’t Me Babe”

As beautiful melodically as it is lyrically biting.

U2 - “With Or Without You”

Haunting and painful, whenever U2 play this one live, it always brings the house down.

The Rolling Stones - “Angie”

The perfect song for capturing that moment when two people in a relationship both realize it’s time to go their separate ways.

The Cars - “Drive”
