Salesianum Athletic Director Gets Her Own Billboard On 95
Salesianum Athletic Director Gets Her Own Billboard On 95
Imagine driving down 95 and seeing your friend, family member, or colleague’s face larger than life. That’s the case for Wilmington University Alum and Salesianum Athletic Director Katie Godfrey.
Salesianum Athletic Director
In March, Godfrey was named the athletic director at Salesianum, Wilmington’s all-boys school.
She reconnected with Wilmington University Director of Athletics Dr. Stefanie Whitby to gain some insight into the position.
Whitby was assistant coach for Godfrey’s high school track team and clearly made an impact since she was one of the first phone calls.
Father J. Christian Beretta reported that Godfrey is the first female to receive this honor and hold this position at Salesianum. He added that it is a source of pride for the school.
Women In Sports
This accomplishment was no surprise to the Salesianum Community. Back in 2008, Godfrey became the junior varsity basketball coach and prior to that, no woman had ever coached a sport at Sallies.
Needless to say, Godfrey is trailblazing and paving the way for women in sports leadership at esteemed schools.
Godfrey received her master’s in School Leadership from Wilmington University in 2009.
At Wilmington’s all-girls Ursuline Academy she played volleyball, excelled as a guard in basketball, and was a sprinter and hurdler on the track team.
After graduating from Washington College in 2004, Godfrey joined the Sals faculty and, for the next five years, also began accumulating coaching experience outside the school.
