NEWARK, NEW JERSEY - AUGUST 28: Taylor Swift attends the 2022 MTV VMAs at Prudential Center on August 28, 2022 in Newark, New Jersey.

Taylor Swift will release Midnights, a new album featuring thirteen songs, on October 21, 2022.

Taylor Swift showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night showed up on the red carpet in a dress that looked eerily similar to the one she wore in the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video. As many fans have noted, there are very rarely coincidences in anything Taylor Swift does. Was she going to perform “Look What You Made Me Do?” The song came out five years ago, so it’s reasonable to think that she might plan to re-record it; in recent years, she’s re-recorded a number of her albums. It was also the 13-year anniversary of the Kanye West incident.

Of course, Taylor could have just attended because she was nominated the night’s highest honor, Video of the Year. As we now know, she won that award for “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” fron 2021’s Red (Taylor’s Version). During her acceptance speech, she dropped the news about her new album, which she prepared to reveal t midnight (roughly 45 minutes after her acceptance speech). At midnight, she announced her new album, Midnights. Fans, unsurprisingly, went nuts on social media after the announcemnt.

Taylor says that this is a collection of songs “written in the middle of the night.” This is not the first time she has mentioned specific times in the night and early morning hours in her songs. She famously has referenced 2 am many times. But Taylor Swift also has several songs that already mention midnight. There are at least six references to midnight in Swift’s currently released discography. The references begin in RED and continue through Evermore. Interestingly enough, Taylor didn’t mention the song titles, instead listing “Track One,” “Track Two,” Track Three,” up through “Track Thirteen.” Although there’s a chance that those are the actual song titles. Check out our list below of “midnight” references. Which is your favorite midnight reference?

You can preorder the album now on her website.

  • "New Year's Day"

Of course, a song titled New Years Day would reference midnight. The song references a relationship built around the little things, not just the big moments. The line “I want your midnights/But I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day,” describes the relationship with the guy who stays not just for the party, but for life. You go Joe Alwyn.

  • The Last Great American Dynasty

The descriptive story track about Rebecca Harkness, the previous owner of Taylor’s Watch Hill Rhode Island mansion, gives us our next midnight reference. “They say she was seen on occasion, Pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnight sea.”

    Album: Folklore

  • Happiness

While not the joyful song that the title suggests, “Happiness” is about the promise of one day finding happiness again after a breakup. What was ultimately bad was still good at times. She sings “From the dress I wore at midnight, leave it all behind And there is happiness:
