Bald Men May Be Hit Harder By Coronavirus
We have bad news for balding men: if you get coronavirus, your symptoms may be more severe.
According to the New York Post, “Scientists now believe that androgens — male sex hormones like testosterone — may boost the ability of coronavirus to attack cells. The same androgens are also understood to be behind baldness, making it a signal of vulnerability to the disease.”
Professor Carlos Wambier of Brown University, agreeing with this, says, “We really think that baldness is a perfect predictor of severity.” The theory is now being called the “Gabrin sign.”
The New York Post states that in one recent study, almost 80% of the coronavirus patients in three Madrid hospitals were bald. They add that numerous tests are being done to see if treatments used to suppress hormones for prostate cancer, as well as baldness, may help slow down the virus.
