Old Town Road Street Signs Keep Getting Stolen in Massachusetts
Things are great for Lil Nas X and his “Old Town Road” single, but not so great for one east coast city.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Old Town Road street signs in Wellesley, Massachusetts keep getting stolen since Lil Nas X’s song became popular.
On the town website they explain that, “Currently the street sign posts are empty. The Department of Public Works is waiting for the song’s popularity to fade before replacing the signs again.”
They also add that “First responders often rely on the street signs in emergencies and missing signs could delay response times. Additionally, each time the sign is taken, replacement costs can reach up to $280, not taking into account installation labor.”
So far, the sign has been stolen three times.
“Old Town Road” is still Number 1 on the Billboard charts.
