There’s no stopping Miley Cyrus! The ever-evolving pop icon has dropped a brand-new single, “End of the World.” With a title like that, who could resist pressing play? But, of course, being Miley, you know this isn’t a doomsday anthem (we hope!). Let’s dive into her latest track and figure out if we’re really staring down the apocalypse—or if she’s just gifted us our next favorite shower sing-along.
Miley Cyrus: “Let’s Pretend It’s Not the End of the World”
With a hook, “Let’s pretend it’s not the end of the world,” the song which was uploaded on YouTube several hours ago, already has 32,600+ views as of this writing with fans commenting, “This is the song i wanna listen in the end of the word, Miley, this is MAGICAL.” While another wrote, “This sounds so nostalgic and I can tell it will be a massive hit at least I hope.”
“End of the World” is the third song released from Cyrus’ latest album Something Beautiful, after releasing “Prelude” and title track. The “Flowers” singer teased her latest offering and described it as “one of a kind pop opera” as well as a “unique visual experience fueled by fantasy,” per Billboard.
The Song’s Meaning
Despite the ominous title, the song's beat is catchy, and the lyrics are surprisingly inspirational.
The lyrics to the second verse goes: “Let's spend the dollars you've been savin' on a Mercedes-Benz (Ah) / And throw a party like McCartney with some help from my friends / Yeah, let's go down to Malibu and watch the sun fade out once more / Show me how you'd hold me if tomorrow was comin' for sure.”
The lyrics encourage us to live life to the fullest and embrace the present, reminding us that we can never be sure if tomorrow is guaranteed. It also urges us to express our love for those closest to us and “hold” them tight.
One line on the Bridge also reiterated this point, “Do the things that we were way too terrified of before.”
Miley Cyrus may have gained attention for some of her past antics, her marriage to Liam Hemsworth and their subsequent divorce, and the drama surrounding her family, but there’s no denying her incredible talent—especially when it comes to writing meaningful lyrics.
Her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, is set for release on May 30 and will feature 13 brand-new tracks.
