What’s with the Low-Flying Helicopters in Bucks County?

Social media feeds have been flooded with reports of low-flying helicopters in Bucks County during the weekend of March 29 and 30, leaving many in the region wondering what is going on. 

The Solebury Township Police Department explained the low-flying helicopters on its social media channels. The department says PECO is inspecting its power lines for reliability and safety.

"The helicopter, equipped with specialized equipment, will fly at low altitudes to capture high-resolution images and data of power lines and infrastructure," said PECO officials in a public statement. "This inspection process allows PECO to identify potential issues before they cause outages, ensuring that PECO customers receive the reliable service they expect."

PECO further noted that helicopter inspections are integral to its power lines maintenance program. This work allows the electricity supplier to find and address potential problems before they result in power outages, enhance the overall reliability of the region's power grid, and ensure the safety of PECO's infrastructure and the communities it serves.

"Residents may notice the helicopter flying overhead at low altitudes, but please be assured that the flight is a routine part of our maintenance operations. PECO appreciates your cooperation and understanding as we work to provide the best possible service," PECO officials said in their statement.
