Philadelphia Plans Two Fireworks Shows, Mummers Parade for New Year’s Celebration
The City of Brotherly Love is gearing up for New Year’s celebrations, which will include fireworks, the Mummers Parade, and other dynamic events.
New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31
Two spectacular fireworks shows will light up the sky on New Year’s Eve, with displays over the Delaware River: one at 6 p.m. (ideal for families with children) and one at midnight. Head to the Race Street Pier, Spruce Street Harbor Park, Pier 68, and Washington Avenue Pier to catch the action.
Watch the fireworks aboard the Ben Franklin yacht from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. Guests will enjoy four hours of music and dancing, a premium open bar, and 360-degree waterfront views.
On New Year’s Eve, those who seek the star treatment can attend a lavish party at the Pyramid Club, 500 feet above the streets of Center City. The gala, held inside the penthouse of the BNY Mellon building, features an open bar, buffet station, and DJ sets.
In the Philadelphia countryside, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square will come alive with music and light shows from 2 to 10 p.m. Enjoy performances by the Olde Towne Carolers, the Duly Noted Quartet, and the Galena Brass band. In historic Kennett Square, the mushroom capital of the world, locals keep up their quirky tradition of watching a giant mushroom drop when the clock strikes midnight.
New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1
The riverside fireworks herald the annual New Year’s Day Mummers Parade, a Philadelphia tradition. Watch as 10,000 costumed marchers display their finery on the streets of Philadelphia. The parade begins at 9 a.m. at City Hall and heads down Broad Street to Washington Avenue in South Philly. Grab your ticket for bleacher seating along the route.
