The news has been circulating around on social media as Delaware Senator Tom Carper Announces His Retirement.

Many have been wondering “what’s next?” for lifetime politician and Democratic Senator of Delaware Tom Carper.

He announced earlier this week that he will not be seeking another term, he is in fact retiring.

Mayor Mike Purzycki mentioned in a heartfelt post on Facebook: “I am disappointed to learn that the senator has chosen to retire but at the same time I am grateful for his lifetime of service to our City, state and nation. For a good part of my career, I had the pleasure of being part of the team that transformed the Christina Riverfront. Tom Carper’s leadership and partnership as far as understanding and supporting the potential of the Riverfront District began before he became Governor and has continued to this day. Thank you, Senator, for your support, friendship, and guidance.”

What will this mean for the first state? Well, the seat is open and it’s very possible that a Republican politician could take win the position.
Many residents have made their opinions known on social media as Delaware Senator Tom Carper Announces His Retirement.
According to NBC News, when asked who he would like to replace him, Senator Carper mentioned Representative Lisa Blunt-Rochester. He said “I’ve known Lisa since she was an intern in our congressional office,” adding that she worked for his congressional office after finishing graduate school and later worked for Carper in the governor’s office.
