Delaware Resident Creates College Scholarship
Ollie Tansimore has been spe nding a lot of time in Delaware. He moved here six years ago and has been loving his life in the first state. “I love the hospitality here and the people are great too,” he said. “I’d come here a lot.”
Tansimore decided the best way to honor his mother would be to set up a scholarship fund for local students.
Ollie, known as OT, is inviting high school seniors in Delaware to apply. There is also an opportunity for local businesses to contribute to make sure the fund is able to continue helping future students.
The Etherine Tansimore Scholarship plans to offer $500 to 10 students interested in medical/health care fields of study. They must be planning to attend an accredited college, trade school or university the next academic year. Eligibility requirements include having a 2.5 GPA or higher and coming from a low-income background.
The scholarship was created in honor of Etherine Tansimore, a longtime nurse who felt that education was important. She was also passionate about giving back to the community and mentoring others. After her death in 2019, OT decided to emphasize all of these areas in her memory.
“This scholarship will help keep her legacy and give people an opportunity to learn all about her,” he said.
Giving back and staying humble has always been part of his life. In high school, he was part of the first graduating class of the Philadelphia Futures. The Futures was a program that helped low-income students succeed in high school and earn a college degree.
After high school, OT attended College where he earned a degree in Computer Information Technology.
He continued to work in that field for 13 years before he decided to switch into radio and entertainment.
The application deadline for the 2023-2024 school year is Dec. 15, and selected recipients will be announced in January, with the funds available for fall 2023.
