For 38 years the U.S. News and World Report has ranked colleges and universities. This year saw two Delaware schools make the best colleges rankings.
The University of Delaware and Wilmington University both made the U.S. News and World Report rankings of Best Colleges and Universities.
Wilmington University was ranked somewhere between #331 and #440. The rankings website did not reveal their specific ranking.
The University of Delaware ranked in the top 100. U.S. News and World Report ranked the school #89 overall.
The rankings latest edition assessed an all-time high of 1,500 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality according to U.S. News and World Report website.
According to their website “U.S. News’ directory of institutions contains each school’s rankings data and key characteristics about majors, campus life, costs of attending, and more.”
Princeton University in New Jersey was ranked #1 overall in the report.
The Top 5 did include a few ties. The Top 5 is as follows:
1. Princeton University
2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
3. Harvard University
3. Stanford University
3. Yale University
The highest ranked local school was the University of Pennsylvania. UPenn finished #7 overall. Widener finished at #219, Immaculata and West Chester at #250, Rowan at #194, Villanova at #51, Drexel at #105, LaSalle at #202. and Temple at #121.

According to CBS News “The magazine’s annual rankings provide far more than bragging rights to the top universities, as the standings are used as recruitment tools to convince high school students to apply to highly selective colleges.”
