This Monday at 6am, we become Delaware’s Christmas station for a day, from 6am to 7pm!
“Your Mix from the 80’s To Now” takes a hot summer day off, to make room for the greatest Christmas songs of all time! It’s the November and December WJBR Christmas music format that you’ve come to know and love-as heard every Christmas for a generation on 99.5FM. According to Realsimple.com, Christmas in July was first celebrated in 1933 at a summer camp in North Carolina. The camp dedicated two days (July 24 and 25) to celebrate Christmas! The celebration included fake snow, a decorated tree, a gift exchange and Santa! In 1940 the movie Christmas in July arrived in theaters.
By the 1950’s department stores, brand new shopping malls and other retail outlets started with Christmas In July sales.
Today Christmas In July parties are a big part of summer vacations, with many beach and resort areas having Christmas In July gatherings.
