Delaware Forest Service Sends Firefighters to Help Battle New Mexico Wildfires
According to Delaware.gov, the Delaware Forest Service is sending its wildfire crew across the country, to New Mexico, due to a steep increase in lightning-caused fires. The increase in lightning fires has pushed the National Preparedness Level to 5 on a 5-point scale, its highest level.
Fire weather has been critical throughout the Western regions of the United States. Majority of the fires remain in Arizona and California currently. Over 1.5 million acres have burned. So far this year, more than 38,767 fires have burned over 3.7 million acres, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
Delaware is pitching in. The small state has trained more than 600 firefighters since 1996 and has since lent a helping hand when it comes to wildfires in the West.
Johnny B and Jessie spoke with Kyle Hoyd, the Assistant State Forester for the Department of Agriculture Forest service. He talked about the crew and their mission! They are making us dela-proud!
