‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fans React To How Alex Karev Was Written Off The Show
*Spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy ahead*
Anyone who is a fan of Shonda Rhimes and Shondaland shows knows that Shonda does what she wants. She will kill or write off a character in a heartbeat, and leave fans devastated. Since Justin Chambers announced that he was leaving Grey’s Anatomy after 15 and a half seasons, fans have been wondering how Alex Karev would exit the show. Would he go tragically like George O’Malley and Mark Sloan, or would he nicely depart like Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins? Well, last night fans got their answer.

On last night’s Grey’s episode, Alex Karev left to be with Izzy Stevens. Yep, Izzy, his ex-wife, and their five-year-old twins. And he did it in a cowardly way by writing letters to Meredith Grey, Miranda Bailey, Richard Webber, and his wife, Jo Karev.
To recap, Izzy Steven was played by Katherine Heigl. Heigl was written off the show after withdrawing herself from the 2008 Emmy race because she felt that the material Shonda Rhimes gave her didn’t “warrant an Emmy nomination.” Afterward, she was called “difficult” in the media. The character of Izzy Stevens abruptly disappeared from Grey’s Anatomy after battling a metastatic melanoma, making embryos, and marrying Alex. It was heartbreaking.
Since Izzy’s departure was not well received, fans are not happy with how Alex’s story concluded. Mainly because of how he’s grown as a character over the years, and, oh, because he remarried! Needless to say, fans are not happy with how Alex’s journey wrapped up. See some of the heated tweets below.
