Kristen Stewart Was Told Hiding Her Sexuality Could Help Her Get A Marvel Movie
Kristen Stewart has been Bella Swan and now, she’s a Charlie’s Angel. But, she has yet to play a superhero and she’s fine with that. Mainly because Stewart says it was suggested that she hide her sexuality if she wanted to be in a Marvel movie.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Stewart revealed that her fluid sexuality has been seen as a problem in Hollywood in the past. “I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favor, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie,'” she said without revealing who told her this. “I don’t want to work with people like that.”
For years, she said she did choose to hide her relationships with women, thinking that would be better for her career. If she didn’t hold hands with women in public then she didn’t have to answer questions about her sexuality. Stewart prefers not to label her sexuality and doesn’t mind being the poster child for sexual ambiguity. Especially if it’s helping others feel comfortable in their own skin.
“I just think we’re all kind of getting to a place where – I don’t know, evolution’s a weird thing – we’re all becoming incredibly ambiguous,” she said. “And it’s this really gorgeous thing.”
Stewart next stars in the latest reboot of Charlie’s Angels, in theaters November 15.
