Kevin Spacey Missing From ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ Trailer
Is Kevin Spacey back in the limelight?
Billionaire Boys Club officially has a release date, and Kevin Spacey is still listed as a co-lead, after Ansel Elgort, but he is surprisingly scarce in the trailer.
In October of last year, allegations of sexual misconduct were brought forth against Spacey. According to USA Today, Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexual advances in 1986, when Rapp was 14 years old.
Within the weeks following Rapp’s allegations, fourteen other people came forward with their own allegations. As Spacey became part of the “Me Too” Movement, his career lost momentum. Netflix canceled House of Cards and All The Money in the World’s director, Ridley Scott, announced that Christopher Plummer would replace Spacey as J. Paul Getty.
Billionaire Boys Club, which had already finished filming by the time the allegations were made, is set to release on digital and Video On Demand on July 17, with a theatrical run beginning on August 17.
Indie distributor Vertical Entertainment released a statement to TheWrap stating, “We hope these distressing allegations pertaining to one person’s behavior — that were not publicly known when the film was made almost 2.5 years ago — do not tarnish the release. We don’t condone sexual harassment on any level and we fully support victims of it. At the same time, this is neither an easy nor insensitive decision to release this film in theaters, but we believe in giving the cast, as well as hundreds of crew members who worked hard on the film, the chance to see their final product reach audiences.”
Though Spacey isn’t prominent in the trailer, it seems that Billionaire Boys Club is becoming known as his climb back to the big screen.
