The team at Shane Co. used Google Trends to analyze the search volume of both live-action and animated movie villains over the past five years. With this information they determined the most popular movie villains in every state. Here's what they found:
- Delaware's most popular live-action villain is Dr. Octopus from Spiderman!
- Peter Pan's Captain Hook — the most searched Disney villain!
- The Dark Knight's Joker is the #1 live-action villain, most searched in nine states, followed by Hannibal Lecter and Bane.
- The top searched animated villain is Scar from Lion King, most popular in 7 states, followed by the Queen of Hearts (6 states) and Ursula (4 states).
- Comic-book villains ranked the highest: DC movie villains won in 13 states, while Marvel movie villains (the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Thanos) won in five states. Star Wars villains Kylo Ren and Darth Vader were the most popular in two states.

Methodology
Shane & Co. put together a list of 87 popular movie villains (37 from live-action movies and 45 from Disney/Pixar movies) using ranked lists from The Insider, Disney Fandom, and Screenrant. Using Google Trends, they analyzed the search volume of each movie villain over the past five years to determine the most searched live-action movie villain and Disney/Pixar villain in every state, as well as nationwide.
