We went on the hunt for Delaware’s Best French Fry
In 2023, there’s been some controversy over National French Fry Day. Up until this year, French Fries were always celebrated on July 13th.
According to National Calendar Day, Checker’s and Rally’s started a petition last year to change the day, and it appears they were victorious.
National French Fry Day 🍟
Starting in 2023, it’s been decided that French Fry Day will now be recognized on the second Friday in July. Get it…FRY-Day? Makes total sense to me. So, that means National French Fry Day is July 14, 2023.
July is quite a busy month for celebrating summer food favorites. The entire month of July is dedicated to Ice Cream because July is National Ice Cream Month. In honor of the sweet treat, I recently put out a list of the top 12 ice cream shops in Delaware that locals go to for a scoop. Since our WJBR listeners had so much to say about ice cream, I thought, why not ask about them about the best places to grab some fries in the First State?
I asked around and took to the WJBR station Facebook page to simply ask where to go for Delaware’s Best French Fries, and we received comments aplenty. There is a clear favorite amongst those who answered, and where that is probably won’t come as a surprise to most of us. But, I was surprised at just how many places were mentioned at least once. Places like Trolley Tap House, Skipjack in Newark, Dewey Beach Country Club, DQ and KFC.
With this list, I am sure the condiment debate will also ensue. Delawareans are hell bent on vinegar being a top choice for French Fries, and for good reason, it’s delicious. Also big fans of gravy and Old Bay seasoning. It’s a matter of preference, because you can’t really go wrong with any of the aforementioned options.
So, in no particular order, these are the places we were told have the best French fries in the state.
TRIGGER WARNING 🚨 some of these locations are going to upset you.
