Football Superstitions Eagles Fans Believe In

First and foremost, GO BIRDS!

It’s no secret that the Philadelphia fan base is one of the most hated in the country. Philadelphia fans have been marked as brutal, crude, uncouth, offensive, and just downright garbage people.

While some have taken things a bit too far, the majority of us enjoy the standard sports trash talk. We enjoy it even more, when the opposing team and fans can take it like a champ and give it right back.

It’s all in good fun.

Personally, I love a bit of smack talk during a game as long as we remain respectful of each other.

That being said, it’s easy to see that this region of fans is die hard.

I’m proud to be a part of a fan base that takes the sport so seriously. I love supporting our Philly teams.

I feel like I’m a part of something bigger than me, when I’m surrounded by Philly fans.

We eat, sleep, breathe and bleed green.

Just like the professional athletes that dedicate their lives to their sport, Philly fans follow certain pre-game rituals.

The thought of not doing things a certain way is enough to send a Philly fan into a frenzy.

I never thought I’d be the kind of person who cares about what coffee mug I drink out of on game-day.

I also never thought I’d be one to turn down an invitation to a friend’s house because it might “jinx the Eagles”. But again, here we are.

Football Superstitions Eagles Fans Believe In

Over the years, I’ve been introduced to Philly fans across the country. In my travels, I’ve met fans who were married into, born into it, chose it later in life, etc.

I was surprised to learn that the route they took that led them to being a Philly fan did not matter. They were all participating in some sort of pre-game behavior that they considered to be superstitious or lucky.

We’ve discussed many times on the show, the different superstitions that we believe in.

Deanna and Justin share some of the same thoughts when it comes to behaviors during the football season and on Sundays alone.

According to The Bleacher Report, a lot of NFL players have their own pre-game traditions that have practiced for years.

Take a look at the list we’ve compiled of Football Superstitions Eagles Fans Believe In.

Do you follow any of these superstitious behaviors?

  • Pre-Game Food & Drink

A lot of fans believe that their team won’t do as well if they don’t eat what they normally eat or drink what they normally drink on game-day.

I can’t tell you how many times my husband has said “We have to get wings”. Not because he necessarily wants them, but if the Eagles were playing poorly and we hadn’t had wings yet, that was obviously going to change the course of the entire game once we ordered them.

  • Your "lucky" gameday mug

If you don’t use the right coffee cup, cereal bowl, beer glass, you could possibly jinx your team.

No, you WILL jinx your team!

Every sunday or gameday I make sure I have coffee in my Eagles mug! It adds to the good juju!

  • GRAB ALL THE EAGLES GEAR WE HAVE!

There is nothing more anxiety inducing than when the birds aren’t playing all that great and we have to get out all the gear.

The idea is that all the jerseys or team paraphernalia that we have in the house is going to work together and magically bring them better luck.

  • Touchdown Shots

If you imbib, you may believe that you must stick to a certain drink of choice or it will jinx the team.

Furthermore, if you have a habit of doing “touchdown shots”, you know very well that you have to do them the same way every time. All the way down to the way you salute and hold the glass.

Since our friends are all watching in the comfort of their own homes, we Facetime and pour those touchdown shots together. Here’s our friend Melissa celebrating a TD with us from across the country!

  • Don't wash the good juju off the jersey!

You have probably heard Deanna and Justin In The Morning discuss their shared superstition. Neither of them wash their jersey if the Eagles are winning. But if they lose, it immediately gets washed because you don’t want to carry that bad juju into next week.

Pictured is Deanna and husband Jacob sporting their unwashed Jerseys following the Eagles’ win last week.
