Deanna and Justin In the Morning had a discussion about different ways to pose for photos. The biggest surprise was How Other Countries Say “Cheese” When Smiling For Photos.

Did you know that “Say, Cheese” isn’t the universal prompt when posing?

There are many other words that other parts of the world use. It got us wondering if these words make your face shape into a smile while saying them in the native language or if it’s just customary.

Where did “Say, Cheese” come from? According to Wikipedia, “Say ‘cheese'” is an English-language instruction used by photographers who want their subject or subjects to smile. By saying “cheese”, most people form their mouths into what appears to be a smile-like shape.

So we were wondering if the words used by other parts of the world have the same outcome when they’re said.

It’s possible they have the same effect as cheese, but not if you say them in English.

So we decided to experiment and say some of the words other countries use but in English. We wanted to see if they would be as effective as “cheese”.

Some were, but most not so much. In a reddit thread, we found out other parts of the world prompt each other to smile.

In the end, they did make us laugh.

So in the end, How Other Countries Say “Cheese” When Smiling For Photos does depend on how the word sounds in that language.
