From the Ronald McDonald House Delaware, Dawn Brooks, Special Events Manager, discussed its mission and the special care it provides families with children receiving care at our local hospitals. Many families travel far from home, even internationally, and spend weeks or months in treatment. At the house they receive a home-like environment, with some rooms accommodating extended families, with all meals, kitchen facilities, laundry, and playtime. Counseling and social services are also available,
She discussed their work in the hospitals, as well, they also operate Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Christianna and Nemours, where they also provide overnight rooms. A new ‘Hospitality Cart’ takes snacks, kids activities and books and magazines around to parents and families waiting at the hospitals.
RMHDE depends on donations to keep the house running – she asks for anything you may need for your own household, from soap to paper towels! In the case of an accident, families can arrive without even the barest necessities. At the holidays, they look for help providing gifts and fun for the children who will be staying there. Dawn directs us to their website for a current Wish List of needed items.
On December 15th she invites everyone to come for their annual Share A Night House Lighting with food, activities and the grand lighting of their huge display.
