Ann Duschamp, Director of the ADA Mid Atlantic discussed their work helping disabled employees, consumers and businesses navigate the ADA. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 4 Adults in the US have some type of disability (28.7%)
Employing individuals with disabilities offers numerous benefits to organizations, including enhanced profitability, innovation, and a more inclusive workplace culture.
A systematic review of 39 studies found that hiring people with disabilities leads to improvements in profitability, such as increased profits, cost-effectiveness, higher retention rates, and enhanced company image.
Additionally, research indicates that companies with robust disability inclusion practices experience 1.6 times more revenue, 2.6 times more net income, and double the economic profit margins compared to their peers.
The inclusion of employees with disabilities has been linked to increased innovation. A study of 140 U.S. companies confirmed that disability inclusion efforts enhance business performance, particularly in innovation.
Moreover, employing neurodivergent individuals, such as those with ADHD and autism, can provide a competitive advantage. Data from the UK indicates a six-fold increase in job advertisements referencing neurodiversity since 2019, reflecting a growing recognition of the unique skills these individuals bring to the workplace.
Employing individuals with disabilities fosters a more inclusive work culture. The systematic review mentioned earlier also found that such hiring practices lead to increased employee loyalty, reliability, punctuality, and a stronger work ethic among all staff members.
