Suicide Prevention was discussed on Suicide Awareness Day
September 10th is Suicide Awareness Day and we spoke with Sarah Hart from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and Jim and Denette Stetler, who lost their 20 year old son, Trent, to suicide during his Junior year of college. They spoke of the signs we should be looking for, in conversation and in social media that could begin a discussion and offer of help; the effects on family and friends, the need to destigmatize suicide and the comfort they receive at events such as the annual Out of the Darkness Walk. This year’s Philadelphia walk is October 1, leaving the Museum of Art steps.
Jim’s parting words, when you have ‘The Talk’ with your kids, include mental health!
