Jon Buzby, Director of Media Relations for Special Olympics Delaware, spoke about the organization and its founding by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in the 1960s. He discussed the sports and other programming offered by the organization, including social events, leadership programs, Family Days and Summer Camp at Camp Barnes. Over 4,200 athletes participate in more than 300 schools across the state, learning teamwork, commitment and interpersonal skills as well as developing physical fitness and fine motor skills. Buzby discussed the sports offered, including figure skating, baseball and even golf, and how any student receiving in-school aid can play, as well as seniors and older adults. He also discussed the championships that wrap a season, only the top finishers receive trophies. Finally, information about the upcoming fundraiser, the Reindeer Run.
