Community Services Manager Diana Brown discussed the libraries of New Castle County and its programming and offerings, from traditional hard copies of the latest best sellers, to e-magazines and e-books, to book clubs, 3rd Grade Reading Readiness, coding and crafts. She discussed the various ways to access the collections, from online to on-site, with book holds and returns across the state – check out a book at your neighborhood library and return while you’re enjoying the beach. Ms Brown discussed the revitalization project of the libraries beginning in 1990 that brought services to the community in tiers, many local libraries, then regional larger libraries with more technology and she discussed the statewide cataloging initiatives. Continuing with services she described their efforts to engage and educate children with the 3rd Grade project, introducing children to 1,000 books before kindergarden, the ‘Baby Club’ for parents reading to the children, their Inner Genius tech competition, their work with adults toward life-long learning with proctoring services, ‘maker movement’ info for entrepreneurs and computer. She also discussed their partnership with DHSS to help residents with their applications for services and referrals.
