September is Library Card Sign Up Month and Catherine Wimberley, Programs & Services for the New Castle County Library system discussed how your card lets you not just borrow books, music, and videos, but helps in learning a language, developing a new skill, catching a concert, checking out a museum pass, renting tools, or borrowing a laptop or hotspot. For kids, a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
We talked about the new Appoquinimink Library where you can now check out tools for hobbies, crafts and carpentry. She notes that it’s expensive to buy tools such as laser cutters and 3-D printers, and the library offers you the opportunity to practice and experiment before you commit.
In September, using your library card will also give you a chance to win a $25 gift card through the generous support of the Friends of the Library.. Visit any New Castle County library and attend a library program, checkout an item, use a computer, or renew or sign-up for a library card and be entered to win a $25 gift card. Each branch will select a weekly raffle winner.
September is also Hispanic Heritage Month at the Route 9 Library, Ms Wimberly told us about special programming offered for kids and adults.
We also discussed the other services found at the NCC Libraries, from computer literacy to help with careers and Adult Education.
Finally, hours have been extended, there’s now a library near you open every day.
