Associate Director of Philanthropy Becky Phillips returned to discuss Nemours Childrens Hospital, the famed Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children. With its new name, AI. duPont’s Nemours Foundation connects the many practices and health providers within the tri-state area, as well as its facilities outside the region. She discussed its beginnings as an orthopedic hospital and it current ranking as a top hospital for children in a variety of areas including pediatric cancer, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiac care and transplants. We discussed the ‘extras’ that make Nemours so welcoming to families, their ChildLife program. Thanks to donations through grants and the annual Help Our Kids Radiothon Nemours offers children and their siblings art therapy, pet therapy, music and crafts. In non-COVID times there are camp experiences and a room for video games and toys. The trauma-informed counselors work with children and their families to prepare them for treatment and procedure, what to expect after release and how to cope with life threatening or long-term illnesses and help with end-of-life situations. This year’s Help Our Kids radiothon is Thursday and Friday, Septhember 16 and 17, for more information go to nemours.org/radiothon
