Anne Love, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Delaware, and Tom Hannum, Chef and owner of Buckley’s Tavern, discussed the upcoming Cellar Masters Wine Auction and Celebrity Chefs Brunch fundraisers.
Anne explained the work of her agency, to raise funds for the five statewide meal delivery providers, City Fare and Newark Senior Center, Modern Maturity center, CHEER and Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth, these all work to combat senior hunger and loneliness. She reported a 6% increase in need over 2016, over 4,360 seniors received meals through the programs. MOW Delaware provides funds for meals, transportation and even refrigeration for the centers who deliver them. With a 20% cut in Grant Aid last year fundraising is more important than ever, Tom discussed the Cellar Masters auction on Saturday, April 28th and the Celebrity Chefs Brunch on Sunday, April 29th at DuPont Country Club. Both will feature great wines, raffles and auctions for trips, items and events. At the Cellar Masters, small production, rare wines will be auctioned. At the brunch, chefs from across the country sign up to participate, they work with local teams on their recipes to offer a variety of stations, paired with fine wines. Tom notes that four-time James Beard semifinalist and Top Chef contestant, John Tesar will be coming in from Dallas to be the Honorary Chair for this year’s event. He’ll be joined by Paul Bachland of Recipe Part Deux in Oregon, Denver’s Brandon Foster, Bruce Kalman, chef of Pasadena’s Union restaurant, and chefs from Chicago, Nashvile, Charlotte and Philadelphia and Wilmington to produce the brunch.
