From Best Buddies Delaware, David Harbaugh, Director of Communications, Marisa Klees, Director of Programs and Operations, Eion Shuler, Program Manager and Meghan Campbell, Development Director, discussed their chapter of this international organization and their mission, to propel friendship, education, employment, and leadership skills through matching people with and without intellectual or developmental disabilities. They work with individuals and in schools to pair buddies to do what any friends do, get together to walk or bowl, visit the mall or watch movies, or just sit and chat. Buddies keep in touch at least once a week and meet in person once a month at the minimum. Best Buddies also plans group events, walks or parties or trips to see a ballgame. This year’s Best Buddies Day at the Phillies is September 24th.
Coming up is their annual Champion of the Year Campaign, brave individuals are nominated to become ambassador/fundraisers in a 10-week fundraising challenge with the winner crowned at their annual party, this year November 4th at Riverfront Events.
This year’s campaign kicks-off August 25 at Constitution Yards. Everyone is welcome to come meet the nominees and learn more about volunteering and becoming a Buddy.
