Ross Mitchell, Executive Director of Glen Foerd, discussed the historic property, a reflection of the manufacturing wealth of the 19th century Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley, its passing to Fairmount Park oversite and its current importance in preserving the Delaware River and Poquessing Creek banks. He discussed the saving of the historic property, through creative event planning. Receiving no money from the city, they home is used as a wedding facility on the weekends and as a ‘stage’ for Ballet X and Fringe Festival performances during the week. In addition, the boathouse is now home to a boatbuilding program in conjunction with the city schools and other water agencies, they also offer kayaking rentals.
