Dr Karyl Thomas Rattay, MD, MS, Director of the Delaware Division of Public Health, discussed the state’s response to COID 19 as vaccines are now being administered. She noted that as Delaware has been in the middle nationally regarding hospitalizations, deaths, and infection rates, with some higher than average and some lower, up and down in the ratings, we must keep up our vigilance! She advises us to wear our masks, keep social distancing, avoid crowds and indoor activities and to continue washing our hands. As to vaccines, the state is working to dispell myths about vaccination – it does not give you the disease, it does not cause other diseases or conditions. Dr Rattay reminds us that mild symptoms or a sore arm after a vaccination means that your body is reacting to the virus, building your immunity. When choosing a vaccine, choose the first one offered to you, she tells us the efficacy rates of the three currently offered is excellent.
