Artie Kempner, a founder, original President and current Board Member, discusses the beginning of Autism Delaware, how it has evolved into the vital service providor it is today, and the community’s needs going foward. Artie, a multiple Emmy winner and NFL and NASCAR Coodinating Director for FOX, has an adult son with Autism, Ethan. He discussed his path through school and into employment, he’s now a tax-payer who’s moved out of his dad’s house! Artie described the kitchen table founding of Autism Delaware, at its conception it was a peer based social group, offering opportunities for families to share activities and downtime. Their goals changed when they realized their children would ‘be adults longer than children’ and they turned their focus on life after graduation with jobs and meaningful participation in the community.
