MIX 99.5 WJBR and Autism Delaware Celebrates 44 Days of Autism Acceptance and Inclusion,
highlighting autism awareness and engagement from March 25 to May 7!
In this first episode of a monthlong series, Autism Delaware Executive Director Brian Hall and Interim Director of Family Support Dafne Carnright discuss their vision, that all people with autism have opportunities to learn, grow, and live full lives as included and valued members of their communities. We discussed what we know – and don’t know about Autism and how it is diagnosed. They spoke of their programs that wrap around the family, offering services, resources and support to individuals and families all across the state. They work with businesses to offer employment and services to families and individuals affected by Autism, they offer group events and activities for peer support, and they advocate for education, housing and other benefits. Brian notes they are at the front of the drive for better pay and working conditions for care-givers, an issue for anyone requiring any assistance. He also asks for support, the need for their services is growing, the ’44 days’ refers to the current incidence of Autism, one in 44 will now be diagnosed. They invite everyone to join them at events and fundraisers and ask the public to share their events and stories at their 44 Days page.
