The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced overnight closures of southbound I-95 in Center City Philadelphia on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. These closures are part of the $329 million I-95 CAP project.

According to MyChesCo, the road closure will impact southbound I-95 and the ramp from eastbound I-676 to southbound I-95 between the I-676 (Callowhill Street) and Washington Avenue and Columbus Boulevard interchanges. During the closure, traffic will be detoured through local streets, including Callowhill, Sixth, Race, and Columbus Boulevard.

All roadwork activities are weather-dependent, which could impact the schedule of the closures.

PennDOT reminds motorists to expect delays and to allow extra travel time while road construction is underway.

According to 95Revive.com, the I-95 CAP project involves replacing and expanding the existing covered area over I-95 between Chestnut and Walnut streets with a larger cover that extends east over Christopher Columbus Boulevard at Penn's Landing. This ambitious collaboration among PennDOT, the City of Philadelphia, and the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation aims to improve pedestrian and multiple modes of access between Center City and the Delaware River Waterfront.
