PennDOT has announced nighttime lane and ramp closures on I-76, the Schuylkill Expressway, for paving and bridge repairs. Nearly five miles of I-76 in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township will undergo resurfacing and repairs at a cost of $41.3 million.
Starting Monday, Oct. 6, and continuing through Monday, Oct. 13, weeknight lane closures will take place between I-676 and Arch Street from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., the ramp from eastbound I-76 to eastbound I-676 will be closed, and all traffic will be detoured.
The ramp from westbound I-76 to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) will close from 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 17, and again from 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, to 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, for concrete and bridge repairs.
Weeknight ramp and lane closures will also take place on I-476 as part of a $63.7 million resurfacing and repair project. Nearly 17 miles between I-76 in Montgomery County and I-95 in Delaware County will be impacted.
From Monday, Oct. 6, through Friday, Oct. 10, lane closures will take place each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on ramps to and from I-476 at Baltimore Pike/Media Swarthmore (Exit 3) for ramp meter upgrades.
Also, from Monday, Oct. 6, through Friday, Oct. 31, weeknight lane closures will be in effect between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge repair, paving, pipe replacement, and line striping.
PennDOT advises motorists to expect delays and allow extra time for travel. All scheduled work is weather-dependent.
