Celebrate Autumn’s Colors at Longwood Gardens

Longwood Gardens is celebrating fall with its Autumn's Colors festival, running from now through Nov. 16. The event features stunning horticultural displays, art, and cultural programming in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

During a visit, guests will discover outdoor pumpkin displays, a 25th anniversary Garden Railway showcasing miniature landmarks, and treehouses offering views of autumn foliage complemented by seasonal plantings indoors and outdoors.

Highlights of the event include the Chrysanthemum Festival at the East and Main conservatories, featuring more than 5,000 plants and 66 sculptures. Visitors can also witness a grafted chrysanthemum bonsai, alongside an exhibition of chrysanthemum bonsai created by students and staff.

Garden design efforts are showcased through the reopening of the Cascade Garden, the only U.S. design by Roberto Burle Marx, now preserved in a glasshouse, and a landscape design conference titled "Designing Change: Landscape Continuity in an Age of Uncertainty," scheduled for Oct. 15 and 16.

Educational programs will also be available, including workshops on chrysanthemums, monarch butterflies, backyard birds, and a four-week online course on the history of garden design. Prices for the programs range from $12 to $159.

Visitors can also enjoy revitalized dining options with the reopening of the 1906 restaurant, featuring seasonal menus. An outdoor Beer Garden will host food and live music until Oct. 26.

Operating hours for Autumn's Colors are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday through Oct. 26. From Oct. 27 through Nov. 16, Longwood Gardens are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday and closed Tuesdays. 

Timed admission tickets are required, with member reservations available Friday through Sunday from 3 p.m. to closing time through Oct. 26. Special ticketing options include two-day passes available through Oct. 26 and Gardens By Day and Night tickets on weekends through Oct. 26.
