The National Constitution Center invites members of the public to honor our nation's service members with activities and programs during the Memorial Day weekend.

On Saturday, May 24, West Chester University Department of History Chair Robert J. Kodosky will host a coffee and conversation about the origins of Memorial Day, including a discussion about the price for liberty and the lasting struggle for civil liberties. The program will take place at 12:45 p.m.

Additional activities held during the weekend will include:

  • Make Poppy Pins: Visit the poppy pin station in the Grand Hall Lobby from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to discover the connection between poppies and our nation's armed forces. Learn how to craft your own poppy pin to honor those who died in service to our country.
  • Memorials: How a Nation Remembers: How did America's most familiar memorials and monuments come to be? The National Constitution Center will share the significance of memorials ranging from the Lincoln Memorial to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Find out how these monuments honor the memories of those who served our country. This program will occur at 10:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. in the Grand Hall Overlook.
  • Gallery Talk - The Origins of Memorial Day: Join the center's staff as they explore the history of Memorial Day with a special highlight on artifacts from the Civil War. This gallery talk is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. in the "Civil War and Reconstruction: The Battle for Freedom and Equality" exhibit area.
