A big winter storm is heading toward Virginia Beach, threatening a foot of snow, while Delaware looks to escape the worst. Sussex County's winter storm watch has been reduced to a basic weather advisory by the National Weather Service.
The storm's move to the south saves Delaware from heavy snowfall. New Castle County should see just a light coating, while Sussex County might get up to 4 inches in some spots.
Starting Wednesday at 1 p.m., Sussex's weather advisory runs until Thursday evening. The southeastern part of the county has about a 50% chance of getting 2 inches.
In Kent County, snow will show up here and there between midnight and dawn Thursday. The morning brings steady snow until early afternoon, turning into occasional light snow.
Meanwhile, Virginia's part of Delmarva sits right in the storm's path. Weather experts say heavy snow will cover Virginia Beach and nearby areas.
Strong winds Wednesday will make it hard for drivers to see. These warnings mean driving could be difficult.
By Thursday night, the weather will clear up. Cold temperatures stick around through Friday before it starts warming up for the weekend.
As the storm moves through, roads might get icy. Check weather updates and road conditions if you need to drive.
