Expert Tips On Finding Your Skin Undertones
We all have our go-to colors, styles, and fits that accentuate our unique features. And many of us know that certain colors have the incredible ability to make our skin glow and just make us feel amazing. But let’s be real, sometimes adding those specific shades to our wardrobe can be a bit intimidating, even downright challenging.
How To Find Your Skin Undertones
You may have come across influencers on TikTok showcasing their trips to color analysts or image consultants. These visits help them determine which shades best complement their natural tones. They even get recommendations for clothing and make-up looks. But not everyone has these kinds of services available near them.
Luckily, Best Life, a lifestyle magazine, collaborated with beauty experts to compile a list on how to find your skin undertones.
Celebrity makeup artist Sloane Casper, who works with Ring My Belle, told the outlet that everyone’s skin has hints of blue, green, yellow, and red. “Undertone simply tells us how much of which color is present.” She added, “Warm, cool, and neutral undertones are the three major types.”
At the top of their list is the vein test. They said the first way to determine your skin undertones is by looking at the veins in your wrist. If they If they look blue or purple, then you have cool undertones, whereas green suggests warm ones. If it’s difficult to identify whether your veins appear more green or blue, you could have average or neutral undertones.
Next, determining which jewelry is most flattering on your skin can also be a clue regarding its undertones. “Silver usually looks great on people with cooler complexions, while gold best suits those with warmer complexions,” said one of their experts. They also added that if you can rock both, then you are neutral.
Another skin undertone test they included is the white paper test. In natural lighting conditions, you just hold a plain white piece of paper next to your face. “If your skin appears ruddy colored, then it has cool undertones; otherwise, if it looks yellowish rather than distinctively pink or yellow, then it has warm undertones. If it doesn’t look distinctly yellow or pink, then you might have neutral tones,” one expert said.
Apparently, how your skin reacts to the sun may also help you determine whether your skin has warm, cool, or neutral undertones. They note that it’s “inadvisable to go without sunscreen for the sake of the test.” The experts say you should pay attention to how your coloring changes if you get more unprotected sun exposure than normal.
One expert says people with warm, olive-based undertones tend to develop bronze-colored tans, whereas people with cool, pink undertones tend to tan more red or burn more frequently.
