Wilmington Has One Of The Best Open-Air Museums In The U.S.
Open-air museums are great places to see collections of buildings and artifacts. And one of the best happens to be right here in Delaware. This is no surprise, seeing that Delaware is rich with history, from an island fort used during three wars to one of the largest collections of steam-powered automobiles. Recently, USA Today, 10 Best compiled its annual list of best open-air museums in the U.S. and a Delaware museum scored a spot in the top 10.
The 10 best open-air museums were selected by an expert panel and voted by readers as the best in the country.
Wilmington Museum Is One of The Best in the U.S.
Hagley Museum and Library ranked at spot number 9. It’s located on the site of the original du Pont family gunpowder works. The museum was highlighted for showcasing the early industrial history of America. “Preserving and interpreting the remnants of the early industrial complex, the museum includes the original powder yards, mills, workers’ communities, and historic buildings,” they wrote.
According to Hagley Museum and Library’s website, it’s an indoor-outdoor museum that covers 235 acres. Some areas feature uneven terrain and gravel paths, with much of the property being walkable. Visitors can check out Hagley’s new “one-of-a-kind” exhibition, Nation of Inventors. It celebrates the “golden age” of American invention in the 1800s. Additionally, visitors can explore the Hagley Powder Yard, the E.I. du Pont Garden, and Eleutherian Mills Residence, which is the first du Pont family home in America.
They also feature events for adults, children, families, and exclusive member events throughout the year. Next month, they’re scheduled to host walking tours, Science Sparks programs, wedding open house.
Hagley Museum is open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last admission is at 3 p.m. Arrival before 2 p.m. is strongly encouraged by the museum. They are closed to the general public on Wednesdays. For more specific information about their hours, check out their website here.

Today we’ll focus on some picturesque small towns here in the First State, you can visit, relax, and take pictures. After all, taking great selfies is part of the trip. So we’ll talk of places that have some great backdrops for your photos.
A new study by the travel experts at the travel website North Carolina Travel Guides ranked the most picturesque small towns in America by comparing 500 small towns across the following categories: popularity for photography with the general public, popularity with photographers, and search trends. Here’s the overall top 5. They narrowed it down to the top 120.
Top 5:
1. Fredericksburg, Texas
2. Cedarburg, Wisconsin
3. Orange Beach, Alabama
4. Portsmouth, New Hampshire
5. Madison, Georgia
The list includes plenty of small towns in New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania as well. Those are listed below.
