Thanksgiving is a time to sit back, relax, spend time with family and watch some football. Oh yeah, one other thing…eat a HUGE meal.

For the lucky ones hosting the Thanksgiving meal, there is a great deal of preparation involved. The host or hostess is responsible for putting the menu together, doing the shopping, getting the table set and preparing the dishes. Of course the guests will offer to bring a Thanksgiving side dish or dessert, but let’s be honest, the host or hostess has a lot of work to do.

One of the age old questions when it comes to Thanksgiving meals is, “what’s the best Thanksgiving side dish?”

The folks at Campbell’s recently released their 2023 report called “State of the Sides”. Here are a few key things we learned from their 2023 report.

67% of Americans prefer the side dishes over the main dish
Over half of the US would be happy with a plate full of sides
On average, Americans serve 5 side dishes on their Thanksgiving menu
The most popular side dish in the US is mashed potatoes.

Interestingly enough, Delawareans didn’t agree on their favorite side. Here in the First State, our favorite side dish is Mac N Cheese.
