Baby Fawn Born At Brandywine Zoo

Ande and Clover, a Pudu couple welcomed a new baby fawn on July 12, 2023. According to their website, Clover gave birth to a healthy male pudu weighing 12 ounces. Clover and Ande are taking good care of the little guy.

Pudus are a special deer species. Split by northern and southern regions, these new parent pudus weigh in between 15 and 30 pounds total. Northern pudus are even smaller.

The Zoo has a special program to help support the Southern Pudu species. Their zoo population is managed by their Species Survival Plan programs, which ensures genetic diversity and species health.

While Southern Pudus are not necessarily endangered, their habitat is at risk. The Zoo is running a campaign to help protect the pudu species.

Pudus are at risk of the loss of their habitat due to logging and agriculture, and poaching for the pet trade.

Explore the Pudu Home Makeover to see how you can help support their efforts.
