These 12 Ice Cream Shops In Delaware Are Where The Locals Go For A Scoop

Since July is National Ice Cream Month, we thought we would find out where Delawareans like to go for their favorite scoop.

We took to Facebook and simply asked, “Where Do You Go In Delaware For Your Favorite Ice Cream?”  The response was pretty good.  So, why not put a list together to let others know where the locals like to go?   We promise we won’t tell too many people.  Wink, wink.  Long lines are no fun when you have a hankering for something sweet.

There were plenty of local shops mentioned in the comments.  Delawareans certainly take their Ice Cream seriously, and not just during National Ice Cream Month.

National Ice Cream Month

According to National Calendar Day,  July is National Ice Cream Month.  It makes perfect sense.  July is most definitely one of the hottest months of the year across the country.

Some fun ice cream facts:

  • Vanilla is the most popular flavor of ice cream.
  • The ice cream soda was invented in 1874.
  • It takes roughly 50 licks to finish an ice cream cone.
  • California produces the most ice cream in the United States.

Ice Cream Shops In Delaware

We definitely have some clear local favorites here in Delaware.  Amongst the many, many responses, these locations were shown some love, so we didn’t want to leave them out.   Tre Sorelle Docle, Rita’s, Vanderwende Farm Creamery, Wawa, Charcoal Pit, Uncle Mike’s Ice Cream and Water Ice, Friendly’s and the Creamery at St. George’s.

These are the 12 Ice Cream Shops in Delaware most preferred by the WJBR listeners and Delaware locals

Not listed in any particular order.

  • UDairy Creamery

Clearly a Delaware favorite.  UDairy is on the campus of the UDel, and their ice cream is made with milk from the cows on the on-campus farm, and flavors are developed, produced and sold by students..  Serving up original flavors like, 1st State Cobbler, peach ice cream with a blueberry swirl and cinnamon crumble pieces and Blue Hen Tracks, vanilla ice cream with peanut butter cups, fudge swirl and blue/yellow sprinkles.
