The first state fared very well in the latest rankings of the most charitable states in America.
When you think of charity you usually think money money money.
But money isn’t the only thing people in the first state are doing to help their favorite charities.
“Americans do more than just reach in their pockets to help others, though. They also contribute their time — and plenty of it. Nearly 78 million people volunteer in the U.S., serving a combined total of 5.8 billion hours per year, the equivalent of $147 billion of service.” (WalletHub)
Cold hard cash does however factor in when it comes to charity.
In 2020 donors in the United States have over $485 billion to their favorite charitites.
Delaware was ranked as the 8th most charitable state in America in a WalletHub study.
Delaware was ranked 9th in volunteering and service and 20th in charitable giving leading to its 8th overall ranking.
Pennsylvania was ranked as the 7th most charitable state in America.
Utah came in first and Arizona placed in last place.
Delaware did finish number 1 in one case.
The first state has the most charities per capita alongside Montana and Vermont.
To get these rankings, WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key dimensions, “Volunteering & Service” and “Charitable Giving.”
Things like Volunteer Rate, Share of Population Collecting/Distributing Food, Share of Population Fundraising or Selling Items to Raise Money, and Share of Population Who Do Favors for Their Neighbors factored into the rankings.
Overall the United States was ranked as the 119th most charitable nation in the world.
